What hunters look for in Pennsylvania
Hunters want managed farm or timber ground where they control the pressure and can pursue mature bucks through the rut and the rifle season. Spring gobbler hunting for Eastern turkey is excellent, and black bear are a genuine trophy draw, with some of the largest bears in the East taken here.
The Big Woods of the north-central mountains, the ridge-and-valley country of central Pennsylvania, the farm country of the southeast and south-central counties, and the northwest near Lake Erie are the notable areas, with waterfowl along the river corridors and the Lake Erie shoreline.
When hunters want to be on your land
Archery deer typically opens around late September or October, and the traditional firearm deer season has historically opened in late November, around Thanksgiving. Spring turkey runs through much of May, bear seasons fall in late fall, and seasons are set by Wildlife Management Unit.
Seasons, licenses and regulations are set by the state and change every year; treat this as background, not official information. Some states also have rules for landowners who lease hunting rights.
