Lease Your Iowa Land for Hunting

Iowa is widely regarded as one of the premier trophy whitetail states in the country, and a limited-tag system for nonresidents keeps pressure low enough for bucks to mature. For many hunters, a private lease here is the entry point to a genuine shot at a giant.

You set the price, the dates and the rules. We list your land, take the bookings and handle the money.

Hunting in Iowa

What hunters look for in Iowa

Deer hunters look for timbered creek bottoms, CRP grass and river corridors set among fertile farm ground: the cover and food a mature buck needs. Iowa is also a legendary pheasant state, so grassland and shelterbelts have their own following, and spring turkey hunters work the timber.

The timbered river country of southern Iowa, around Monroe, Lucas and Appanoose counties, is the best-known deer country, along with the Loess Hills on the western border. The grasslands of the north-central region are pheasant ground, and waterfowl move along the Missouri and Mississippi flyways.

When hunters want to be on your land

Archery deer typically opens in early October and runs into January, around the shotgun seasons in December. Spring turkey runs through April and May, and pheasant and waterfowl open in the fall.

Seasons, licenses and regulations are set by the state and change every year; treat this as background, not official information. Some states also have rules for landowners who lease hunting rights.

Landowner questions

Leasing your Iowa land, answered

Who would be hunting my land in Iowa?
A HuntingLeaseUSA member with a paid membership, booking under their own name, not an anonymous reply to a classified ad. In Iowa, the hunters who lease private land are mainly deer, pheasant and turkey hunters. On a season lease, one party holds the ground for the season, bound by your rules.
How do I get paid for a hunting lease in Iowa?
The hunter pays us when they book, so you never chase anyone for money. We keep our fee and pay your share to your bank account on our regular payout run after the month the access period starts. There is no fee to be listed.
What about liability when hunters are on my Iowa land?
The hunter who books signs the Access Agreement, with your rules in it, and the Liability Waiver at checkout, before they pay. Check with your own insurer or attorney about what applies to a landowner who leases hunting rights in Iowa.
